Historical Note
In 1963 the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology held its 67th Annual Meeting in New York City. A post-meeting cruise, advertised as “the Bermuda Seminars of the AAOO”, was available to all attendees for an additional fee. The cruise was organized by an outside firm- Leon V. Arnold , travel consultant. The cruise started on Saturday, October 26th and returned Friday, November 1st. The program included two, half day scientific programs. During the cruise Dr. Drews delivered a talk on “Practical Office Tonography”. In an email dated August 5, 1999, Dr. Drews stated, “Those were the good old days, when going to a meeting was very special, and combining it with a cruise was extraordinary.”

Scope and Content
This is a one-of-a kind collection from Dr. Robert Drews of Missouri, includes memorabilia from the 1963 AAOO Annual Meeting Bermuda cruise, correspondence, photographs, menus and activity rosters. Foods listed on the menus are not exclusive, just typical of the dozens of selections available to passengers. The photographs were taken two weeks before President John Kennedy was shot in November 1963.
