The Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Advancing Education, Providing Better Care

This year, the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology proudly celebrates its 30th anniversary as well as the 30th anniversary of its very first program, the Museum of Vision. 2010 also marks the 25th anniversary of the Academy Foundation’s award-winning public service program, EyeCare America. During this time, the Academy Foundation has advanced lifelong ophthalmic education and public service thanks to the support of thousands of donors.

Last year, proceeds from the Orbital Gala supported the following:

  • Launched new educational resources on the ONE Network (free member benefits):
Academy Grand Rounds (5) – Cases based on real-life, member-submitted scenarios designed to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders.
    MOC Exam Review Course Presentations.
Designed to help practicing ophthalmologists prepare for the DOCK exam.
New Basic Techniques of Ophthalmic Surgery manual published

  • Served more than 200,000 people through EyeCare America by providing free sight-saving eye health educational materials and eye exams and care, thanks to more than 7,000 U.S. ophthalmologists donating their services and time as volunteers.

  • Created a free ophthalmic heritage online resource for use by members, medical historians and the public that contains the Museum of Vision’s entire 38,000-piece collection and has the capacity to house a virtual community that facilitates the sharing of knowledge and collaboration amongst our colleagues. Visit museumofvision.org.

Your generosity is a tribute to a great profession and the patients we serve.

THANK YOU!
