|
Letter from the 2012 ChairIt is an honor and a privilege to serve as the 2012 Board Chair of the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives.
As we see our healthcare landscape changing daily, membership in AAOE is even more critical as we are challenged by new laws, rules, codes and ways of doing business. Your membership in the AAOE is like purchasing one of those “all in one tool kits” that has every imaginable tool in one handy container. One never knows when they need a hammer, a screwdriver, or a level, but it is comforting knowing that you have one of those kits that has everything you need. The resources provided by AAOE like Codequest coding seminars, E-talk, E-expert, courses on a variety of topics at Academy are like always being able to find the right size wrench when you need it to fix something.
Whether your practice is a sub-specialty or comprehensive, this vital network is one of the most collaborative associations I have seen. On a daily basis I witness the partnership of both AAOE and members working together to find solutions for our daily challenges. I am very lucky to be part of this group, with a fantastic Board of Directors and Academy staff and as a team; we look forward to working with you this year and seeing you in Chicago in November.
As I mentioned in Orlando this past year and continue to mention on e-talk frequently, now is the time for you to become more involved with AAOE. Help be a decision maker, find out ways to get involved and make your voice heard.
In looking for something pithy and motivating to end with, I found the following quote from advertising great David Ogilvy: “Managing an advertising agency isn’t all beer and skittles. After fourteen years of it, I have come to the conclusion that the top man has one principle responsibility: to provide an atmosphere in which creative mavericks can do useful work”
That is our job and our challenge - we, as ophthalmic executives are here to provide an atmosphere in which our doctors and staff can do useful work, despite all of the legal and administrative hurdles placed in our way. Together, you, me, AAOE – we hope to be able to collaborate so that you can do just that.
In closing, I look forward to serving and working with you and hope to see you in Chicago in 2012.
